Some photos (and a site update)

Fire in the sky

Some crimson hues across the sky, it’s really a lovely sight

I’ve been getting an image gallery and image modal working, I may as well show it off, right? Inspired by this post showing processing images on hugo, showing a pure-CSS image modal, so I implemented my own since I didn’t want four sizes, only two, and I wanted to add a visible image description to the pop-up. At first I was a bit confused on how to do things, but going through the motions of setting this up really helped me understand hugo a lot better.

2B, from the front cover of the NieR: Automata soundtrack.

I recently listened to the entirety of the NieR Gestalt/Replicant and NieR Automata soundtracks. I enjoy how dynamic and emotive they are, with very strong rhythms too, and yet, on songs like Mourning there’s a slow, pensive, mournful air… Without the soundtrack, I wouldn’t have enjoyed the game nearly as much as I did, and I think I may enjoy the OST more than I do the game itself.

Eat, Sleep, Repeat by the band Copeland

Copeland’s Eat, Sleep, Repeat., a gorgeous work. Eat, Sleep Repeat is an album I’ll probably never let go, and Copeland is one of those bands that left at their prime, and came back lesser known.. Eat, Sleep, Repeat released quite a long time ago… It’s emotive, longing for love lost… They came back sometime ago, I should really pick that other release up.

You Are My Sunshine

Copeland’s You Are My Sunshine, the latest of theirs I have, a very sad work that tries to look forward while looking down…

You Are My Sunshine is both not as sad on the first disc, and yet, its second disc tends toward a hopeless melancholy at the start of the C-side, with lyrics like “you can never tell if you’re center stage, it’s thin as glass and never meant a thing, and you never feel good or bad, only strange and unprepared, ‘cause I never see it coming or you leaving.”

Spiritual Jazz Japan volume one.

Spiritual Jazz Japan vol. 1, a lovely Japanese Jazz compilation of some very vintage tones and styles, with not a bad song on it, I really enjoyed it. Kumo No Ito is a fantastic opener and sets the mood for the rest of the album perfectly, Spanish Flower is a sprawling piece with quite the arrangement of moods, and Minoru Muraoka’s The Positive & Negative with its big beat has a groove that doesn’t let go… Many of the songs are quite longform, utilising Japanese instruments and strange modal shifts.

That’s all for now, I’ll keep this better updated if I can.
